The English poet Robert Browning wrote in his poem: Less is more.
Zhao Youting and Gao Yuanyuan’s wedding invitations have a sentence: Simplicity is not less, but no excess. These two words are just right.
The Nordic style is concise and lively, which is the consensus of all. In fact, its name comes with a “dark” gene.
Nordic style is also called Scandinavian design, and its English name is Scandinavian design. Scandinavian refers to “Scandinavia” in the northwest corner of Europe.
The word Scandinavian is interesting, it translates as “dark place”, does it mean the peninsula is dark?
Yes, the five Nordic countries are all high-latitude countries close to the North Pole, so the temperature is low, the light is weak, and the winter is long… This also directly affects their interior design style.
Although only Norway, Sweden and a small part of Finland are in Scandinavia. But Scandinavian design now generally refers to the design styles of the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland.
Due to their proximity to each other, the five countries share many similarities. Close historical and cultural ties, beautiful natural scenery, top happiness index, good social welfare, similar design style…
▲The national flags are all similar, with crosses on the left
We often say that people are a product of their environment, but so is style. When it comes to Nordic style, the large floor-to-ceiling windows, transparent and bright base colors, colorful embellishments, and flowing lines naturally come to mind.
The reason why the Nordic style is the Nordic style that is booming all over the world today is related to the long precipitation of the local environment.

Floor-to-ceiling windows + white style
When I was in Denmark a while ago, I paid a visit to the former residence of Finn Gühl, the father of Danish furniture design.
The master’s home has floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere. The beautiful green grass and trees outside the house are inadvertently introduced into the room.
PS: Since 1942, Finn Gühl has been designing interiors for his own house. For many years that followed, the master kept his works in his home until his death in 1989.
▲In 2003, Finn Juhl’s wife died. Since then, Finn Juhl’s former residence has been transformed into a museum. The name is “Finn Juhl’s Home”. Retains the appearance of Finn Juhl when he was alive.
Back to the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Nordics have a particularly high risk of depression, which someone says is related to the long winters in the Nordic countries.
It is not unreasonable to think about it. Human beings are always affected by the external environment. When the sun is warm, they are naturally happy and full of energy; in winter, rainy days, and smog days, they are inexplicably depressed and unhappy.
How long is the winter in the Nordic countries, you can feel it: in winter, it is still dark when you go to work at 8 o’clock in the morning, and it will be dark around 3 o’clock in the afternoon. During the winter day, the sun can only be seen for a few hours, which can be described as “darkness”.
Then along with the low temperature and high humidity, the chill that penetrates into the bone marrow is indeed easy to make people feel hopeless.
Of course, the Nordics are powerless to change the natural environment, so they turn their attention to the indoors they rely on to survive the long winter. The purpose of their interior design is nothing else: brighter and brighter; warmer and warmer.
So: they used white to brighten the interior in a large area to make the whole space look bright and transparent; supplemented by huge floor-to-ceiling windows, the light was brought in, and the light was refracted in the room through the white wall.
Let’s take a example for the pelican chair, it’s not only looks very comfortable from the looking but the sitting feels it’s also great, it’s soft, warm, bright color it’s brings great mood if you take a seat drink a cup of coffee , or simple listening some classic music, that’s very super relax ,lazy, and comfortable for both body and soul.
